Cisco Networking Academic at University of Bosaso

University of Bosaso (UOB), the leading advanced technology areas in Puntland Somalia, has launched a Cisco Networking Academy in Puntland. Through strategic collaboration with the Brian Institute of technology, the University has embarked on this great opportunity in Dec 2011.

The launch of Cisco Networking Academy at University of Bosaso marks a major milestone for the program in Somalia specially Puntland.

The University of Bosaso has qualified and fully trained instructors for the Cisco Academy. The university has also provided computer laboratory with a combined capacity of 50 students. The laboratory is fully equipped with computers and internet connectivity.

The training we offer will involve basic information technology knowledge and far more complex networking principles.

We have nearly 400 students enrolled in this course throughout the country; we are currently experiencing an increase in the number of student enrolling,

The courses lead to an international industry certification. These offer a competitive advantage for employment in computer networks related Jobs for the student.

IT Essentials curriculum provides an introduction to the computer hardware and software skills needed to help meet the growing demand for entry-level ICT professionals. The curriculum covers the fundamentals of comuter hardware and software as well as advanced concepts such as security, networking, and the responsibilities of an ICT professional.

The curriculum includes the following features:

  •  Students develop working knowledge of how computers operate, how to  assemble computers, and how to             troubleshoot   hardware and software issues.
  •   Hands-on labs and virtual learning tools help students develop critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
  •   The course emphasizes the practical application of skills and procedures needed to install and upgrade               hardware and software and troubleshoot systems.cisco3
  •       Cisco Packet Tracer simulation-based learning activities allow students to experiment with network designs and configurations.
  •        Interactive assessments provide immediate feedback to support the evaluation of acquired knowledge and skills.

 Course Description

The IT Essentials (ITE) curriculum emphasizes practical experience to help students develop fundamental computer and career skills. ITE helps students prepare for entry-level career opportunities in ICT and the CompTIA A+ certification. The course also provides a learning pathway to Cisco CCNA .

CCNA Curriculum R&S (based on CISCO networking academy curriculum)

The CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum consists of four courses:

1) Introduction to Networks (ITN) is the first course in the Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum teaching students the architecture, structure, functions and components of the Internet and other computer networks. By the end of the course, students will be able to build simple LANs, perform basicconfigurations for routers and switches, and implement IP addressing schemes.

2) Routing and Switching Essentials is the second course in the CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum teaching students how to configure a router and a switch for basic functionality. By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with RIPv1, RIPng, single-area and multi-area OSPF, virtual LANs, and inter-VLAN routing.

3) Scaling Networks is the third course in the CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum teaching students how to configure routers and switches for advanced functionality.  By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot routers and switches and resolve common issues with OSPF, EIGRP, and STP.

4) Connecting Networks is the fourth and final course in the CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum covering the WAN technologies and network services employed by converged applications in a complex network.  By the end of this course, students will be able to configure and troubleshoot network devices and resolve common issues with data link protocols.

We offer these courses every two months smoothly with the minimum number of 20 students, though the number of every class exceeds the number allowed.

The classes are available every week end Thursday and Friday, and starts from 6:00pm-8pm every Thursday, While Friday class start from 4:15pm-8:30pm
